Theories of Social Inequality Free Essays

Karl Marx’s hypothesis to clarify social disparity depends on the inconsistent division of assets between two gatherings: bourgeoisie and the working class, or the affluent/entrepreneurs and the workers. As indicated by Marx, the bourgeoisie have the fiscal influence to increase prudent assets, as they own the organizations where the low class must work to pick up cash to endure. The bourgeoisie keeps up this situation by paying the low class sufficiently just to accommodate their fundamental needs of endurance. We will compose a custom paper test on Speculations of Social Inequality or on the other hand any comparative theme just for you Request Now Marx expresses that the bourgeoisie make the social principles, social qualities and orms, and the low class obliges it. This thought is the reason for what Marx calls, â€Å"false consciousness,† which is the possibility that the† system† is working and there is no motivation to transform it in light of the fact that the low class trusts that one day he will end up being the bourgeoisie; this bogus expectation is the thing that keeps social imbalance in an interminable cycle. Marx accepted that social disparity can be settled through the abolishment of free enterprise by and large. He proposed this could be made conceivable if the working class would stand up and revolt, and ascend against private enterprise by declining to ork and sell their entirely important work, which the bourgeoisie needs so as to endure. Marx didn't consider social to be as unavoidable, in contrast to Max Weber. The reason for Weber’s hypothesis can be found in Karl Marx’s hypothesis, yet makes it a stride further and splits the social structure up much more. As indicated by Max Weber’s hypothesis behind social disparity, there are three significant segments that play into making an inconsistent division in the public arena: social class, status in the public eye, and ideological groups. Each gathering straightforwardly identifies with each other, despite the fact that they are not no different thing. Weber fights that social classes are partitioned as a result of specific ways of life or openings that are given toa individual. On the off chance that an individual is naturally introduced to a rich family, the person is consequently given a way of life that will move the person in question into progress through cash as well as properties, which definitely makes an open door for influence. This exhibits how cash and force plainly shapes classes. Classes don't generally make up networks however. Networks are formed by economic wellbeing, which is one thing that Weber is clear about. Economic wellbeing is characterized by the pportunity for an affluent way of life. The principle contrast among status and class is that of the worth framework inside every one of the gatherings. Through a way of life that one lives, standards and qualities are created, which makes one’s political position. Ideological groups are an immediate impression of the example that makes class and economic wellbeing. They are completely blended: class decides societal position, which shapes goals inside an ideological group. Weber makes a solid contention that social delineation is unavoidable or â€Å"guaranteed† on the grounds that ways of life (which you are naturally introduced to) make status gatherings and nce those are set up, over some stretch of time, the individuals acknowledge them as the norm. When a standard of life is set, it is seldom moved. Karl Marx’ hypothesis behind social imbalance is generally convincing. It clarifies that social imbalance, which is impeding to such huge numbers of, can be settled. His hypothesis gives trust in goals and even offers a strategy to do as such, yet there have been minimal done by the individuals who feel like they are abused by the unfair division ot assets to ascend and change the framework which persecutes them. Marx’ hypothesis is ageless and keeps on addressing those issues which are found in todays society. Step by step instructions to refer to Theories of Social Inequality, Papers

Like a falsehood finder, the E-meter sends a gentle electrical flow of 1.5 volts through the body while the patient holds a metallic chamber in each hand (Mallia. Sacrosanct. 2). Scientologists accept that the photos in the brain contain vitality and mass (Baskin 1). Economics Essay - 550 Words

The World Economy in 200 Yerars Time (Essay Sample) Content: THE WORLD ECONOMY IN 200 YEARS TIMENameSubjectDateIt is amazing that given the economic crises that the world has experienced since the Great Depression, most futuristic movies that Hollywood makes are inspired by science fiction. It is equally surprising that outside the corporate sector, there is little speculation on the long term future of the world economy, less so when the scope of prediction stretches to 200 years. In light of current economic trends, ranging from environmental concerns and scarcity of resources to increasing human population and rising cost of production, it is possible to create a futuristic picture of the global economy. This essay predicts the way the world's economy will be functioning in two hundred years from now.Scarcity of natural resources is the major factor that is likely to play a critical role in determining economic relations between countries in future. Presently, the developed world has an upper hand in economic relations becau se of its advanced industrialization level and technological superiority over the third world. However, future resource scarcity will shift the power base from Europe, China, and North America to Latin America and Africa, where most of the resources are yet to be exploited. Availability of cheap labor is also another factor that will make manufacturers shift their plants to third world countries. This will see third world countries overtake Europe and North America in industrial growth. In fact this trend is already a reality as more American companies move into China where labor is far cheaper than in the U.S.[Mats Lundahl, From Crisis to Growth in Africa (New York: SUNY Press, 2001), 25.] The banking industry is another potential front that will see significant transformations. The ATM, which is today the face of technological innovation and automation of functions in the banking sector, will become obsolete together with the banking staff because hard currency and over-the-counte r operations will be outdated. Mobile banking would have developed to a level where all business and money transactions will be electronic and will be conducted using hand-held gadgets. Similarly, the world will be so globalized that there will be no use of having different currencies. A single world currency, say the dollar, will be the only standard of measure. To regulate the circulation of the virtual currency, there will be a world central bank that will electronically monitor the value of virtual money in public possession. Employers will load money electronically to workers electronic bank accounts, and governments would have devised a system of deducting taxes automatically.[Ozlem Bak and Nola Stair, Impact of E-business Technologies on Public and Private Organizations: Industry Comparisons and Perspectives (New Jersey: GI Global, 2011), 105.] The job market is also poised to witness tremendous changes. Concerned over the high costs of production, entrepreneurs will exploit technology to minimize the demand for human resources. Consequently, many people are likely to be out of employment as robots and automated machines take their place. Given the high levels of unemployment, governments will be forced to establish robust social welfare programs to provide essential services and needs to the public. This development is likely to lead to low levels of social and economic inequalities because society will not be truly capitalist, as governments will regulate the economy to ensure equitable distribution of resources. It is reasonable, therefore, to expect an end to free enterprise and emergency of welfare states.[Daniel Masys, "Effects of Current and Future Information Technologies on the Health Care Workforce," Health Affairs, 21, no. 4 (2002): 33.]

Pro Life And Pro Choice Essay - 1915 Words

Rawls and Nagel would support Hillary Clinton’s stance on abortion in a secular society, regardless of certain comprehensive doctrines, if we are to call the state just and rational. If we were to consider that women were rational beings, as we should, then rationally the issue of abortion would not be a dilemma. Since we live in a pluralistic society where all citizens comprehensive doctrines are free to be heard, this issue of pro-life and pro-choice becomes a controversy. This creates tension within the public sphere between religious citizens and the public sphere. This can be demonstrated between the different ideology of four theologians. Michael Sandel and Thomas Nagel agree that banning abortion is not correct but they clash in the way that they justify this issue. John Rawls is consistent with Nagel s theory on the justification of abortion for women but not to the extent of Hillary Clinton’s late pregnancy abortion. Finally Ratzingers argues why rationality ca n not be the only source for the justification of abortion shows why this causes tensions between the religious citizens and public sphere. Hillary Clinton is a secular pro-choice advocate. For the most part Clinton stands faithfully by her Methodist Church traditions. She previously believed that abortion was consistently wrong with the exception that it would affect the mother but since then has changed her view. Definition of Void in C and C

In computer programming, when  void  is used as a function return type, it indicates that the function does not return a value. When void appears in a pointer declaration, it specifies that the pointer is universal. When used in a functions parameter list, void indicates that the function takes no parameters.   Void as a Function Return Type Void functions, also called nonvalue-returning functions, are used just like value-returning functions except void return types do not return a value when the function is executed. The void function accomplishes its task and then returns control to the caller. The void function call is a stand-alone statement.   For example, a function that prints a message doesnt return a value. The code in C takes the form: void printmessage ( ) {   cout Im a function that prints a message!; } int main ( ) {   printmessage ( ); } A void  function uses a heading that names the function followed by a pair of parentheses. The name is preceded by the word void, which is the type. Void as a Function Parameter The void can also appear in the parameter list part of the code to indicate the function takes no actual parameters. C can take the empty parentheses, but C requires the word void in this usage.  In C, the code takes the form: void  printmessage  (void ) {   cout   Im a function that prints a message!; Note that the parentheses that follow the function name are not optional in any case. Void  as a Pointer Declaration The third use of void is a pointer declaration that equates to a  pointer to something left unspecified, which is useful to programmers who write functions that store or pass pointers without  using them. Eventually, it must be cast to another pointer before it is dereferenced. A void pointer points to objects of any data type.

Sexual Behavior And Substance Abuse Related Activities

There is little to question about youth who socialize with peers who engage in deviant behavior. They are at a bigger risk for criminal behavior and substance abuse–related activities. In addition, there is more research suggesting that interventions that aggregate the at-risk peer go hand and hand with one another. They Examined data from two peer-group intervention studies and found that youth in the experimental group had increased adolescent problem behavior and negative life outcomes in adulthood, whereas youth in the control conditions did not show such effects. The gangster or mob film genre has captivated audiences for nearly one hundred years, dating back to the silent film era. Introduced through films such as The Musketeers of Pig Alley (1912) and Underworld (1927), the genre has become increasingly complex in its development, evidenced by the sophisticated narratives and advanced cinematographic techniques of more recent films such as Road to Perdition (2002) and The Departed (2006). This paper will serve to analyze only two of these brilliant works, and will do so through a compare and contrast format. Howard Hawks’s Scarface: The Shame of the Nation (1932) focuses on gang warfare and police intervention during a power struggle for Prohibition-era Chicago. This pre-Hays Code gangster film†¦show more content†¦Martin Scorsese effectively uses a complex twist of plot in which the narrative of the main antagonist of the film, Staff Sergeant Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), is paralleled and intertwined with that of an opposin g character, William Costigan Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio). Colin Sullivan, raised in a poor Irish neighborhood of South Boston and trained to become a mole for Irish mobster Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) after his acceptance into the Massachusetts State Police, not only must pretend to flush out the suspected mole on the force (himself), he must also find the opposing infiltrator (Costigan Jr.) which the State Police have planted in Costello’s crew. The level of complexity that arises from this scenario is unprecedented in the genre and conclusively demonstrates the development of this type of film from its introduction to the present day. Although the differences in overall plot of these films may vary greatly on a macro scale, The Departed is hauntingly reminiscent of Scarface when analyzed with a higher level of detail. First of all, the name of the reigning mob boss who controlled the illegal alcohol trade that is murdered by antagonist Tony Camonte (Paul Muni) in the openi ng scene of Scarface is named Big Louis Costillo. This name is strikingly similar to that of Frank Costello, the Irish mob boss

Rosa Parks free essay sample

Rosa Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama February 4, 1913. She was an African American Civil Rights activist. She was also well known as â€Å"the first lady of Civil Rights,† and â€Å"mother of the freedom movement† (Rosa parks biography, 2013). She is a well-known and respected as a woman, because of her inspirational, yet defensive action. Parks is famous for her refusal to obey the bus driver who demanded that she relinquish her seat to a white man. Mrs. Parks was charged with violation of the city code that dealt with segregation, though she technically did not violate the law (Makow, 2005)Although she acted alone with her action, her defiance began a movement that ended legal segregation in America. Her ensuing arrest and trial provoked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, one of the most immense and successful widespread movements against racial segregation in history. Rosa Parks was raised in Pine Level, Alabama where segregation was very extreme. She walked to and from school every day (Rosa Parks Book). There were no school busses that went to either her home or the school (Rosa Parks Book). Mrs. Parks attended the Montgomery Industrial School for girls, Booker T Washington High School, and Alabama State College. With the support of Raymond, she was able to attend school again and obtain her high school diploma in 1933. She met and married Raymond Park in 1933 as her first and last mirage even after he passed. Rosa Parks had always carried herself as a hard believer knowing the wrong in segregation (The story behind, 2012). Though she was very tiresome of being mistreated, she always believed that she was just as good as any other, even the white people who treated her like anything less of a human. One afternoon, Rosa Parks paid her fare to go the Cleveland Avenue Bus in downtown Montgomery. She was on her way home from work, the Montgomery Fair department store, when she had just so happen to get on the bus with the same bus driver from thirteen years earlier, who had kicked her off the bus and left her in the rain (The story behind, 2012). She sat in an empty seat in the first row of back seats reserved for blacks in the â€Å"colored† section of the bus. It was near the middle of the bus and directly behind the ten seats reserved for white passengers only. As the bus driver proceeded on to the third stop, all of the reserved seats for the white passengers were full. When the bus arrived at the Empire theatre, several white passengers boarded and all the â€Å"white-only† seats were taken. In the 1900’s, the city of Montgomery, Alabama passed a city ordinance that allowed bus drivers to segregate their passengers by race. However, no passengers were to be required to give up their seat and stand if the bus was crowded and no other seats were available (Ogletree, 2006). Over some time, most bus drivers had adopted the implementation of demanding the black riders to relinquish their seats to the white passengers boarding the bus with no seats available. On December 1, 1955, when Rosa was 42 years old, she was arrested for not giving up her seat in the black section of the bus to a white man who had just boarded on the bus (Ogletree, 2006). The driver, Blake, noted that the front of the bus was filled with white passengers and there were two or three men standing, which moved the colored section sign behind Parks and demanded that four black people give up their seats in the middle section so that the white passengers could sit down. (Rosa parks biography, 2013). The bus consisted of about thirty six seats per bus: the front row were for â€Å"whites only,† the middle were for both, and the back seats were for blacks which came with a rear door that they had to enter and exit from. Parks only agreed to challenge the segregationist law in court after she consulted with her husband Raymond, her mother, and her attorney. She was arrested for taking her stand. The bus incident led to the formation of the Montgomery Improvement Association, which was led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Association called for a boycott of the city-owned bus company (Makow, 2005). The boycott lasted for about 382 days and it brought such an inspirational and mass attention to the world. An anonymous agreement was made that the â€Å"colored† people would boycott the bus until fair seating was arranged and that they would hire more African American men to be bus drivers as well. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks encouraged blacks and white of the same to find a wide range of nonviolent ways to protest the segregation issue (The story behind, 2012). The Montgomery Advertiser supported the boycott by helping spread the word out to many. Because seventy-five percent of the bus riders were â€Å"colored,† the boycott was such a successful and a significant movement that it ended segregation throughout Montgomery and other places around the United States as well (Rosa parks biography, 2013). After the boycott, Rosa Parks became such an iconic and leading spokesperson of the civil rights movement of the U. S. In 1987, Rosa distinguished the Institute for Self Development for young people. In 1992, she published her first book; Rosa Parks, My Story. Rosa Parks also continued to be active and involved in the civil rights struggle, giving speeches and attending marches even after all that has happened (Rosa parks biography, 2013). She had received much recognition, awards, and was honored many times for her outstanding movement. Her courage changed the lives of many and impacted the history of many generations significantly. On October 4, 2005, Rosa Parks passed at the age of ninety-two with such a very well respected and memorable funeral. After she passed, her casket was placed in the rotunda of the United States capitol for two days for the world to pay their respect (Rosa parks biography, 2013). She was the first and only woman, but the second African American to lie in the state capitol, which is an honor reserved presidents of the U. S. After the funeral, Parks’ casket was put on an antique, gold-trimmed, horse-drawn carriage for the seven-mile procession to the cemetery. Her body was to be entombed in a mausoleum along with those of her husband and mother. Rosa Parks was described as â€Å"both a warrior and a woman of peace who never stopped working toward a future of racial equality; a woman and mother of freedom movement (The story behind, 2012). †

Learning to Finish the Race Essay Example For Students

Learning to Finish the Race Essay School is supposed to be a place of learning, growth and self-discovery, but for some students, it is not. When I was young, all I wanted was to be liked by people. Elementary days, that’s when life made me realized that everyone hates me. My classmates would tease, bully, hurt and ignore me. They would usually say, â€Å"you dont belong here†, and there I am sitting alone at the corner of our room. I was deeply hurt, but never had I show them I am crying. Every time Im in pain I pretend to smile but honestly, deep down in my heart I am already crying and at the back of my mind I am also cursing them. It should have been fun going to school, you learn a lot of things and you acquire knowledge, but unfortunately, because of these people, I used to hate going to school. Every time our teacher would announce the Top 10 students of the class, I always pray that my name will be called but no. For almost six years that I have been into Elementary, all I know is hatred and anger, I believe that I can’t do anything, that I am too dull and idiot. When I stepped in high school, I thought there will be some changes about how people treat me, but unluckily, my classmates are bullying and discriminating me again. I was in the smart class, (honestly, even I, myself still cant believe that). Somehow, I did well in school. This is when I was able to be part of the Top 10 students of the class. It was also in high school that I realized that the clichà © â€Å"if you have money, you’ll have a lot of friends† is true. Before I go to school, I always see to it that I have a lots of money and food in my bag so that I’ll have something to give to my classmates for them to like me and be friends with me. I had a lot of friends then, but they leave me when I already don’t have money to treat and food to give them. During our fourth year in high school, everyone has their goal, of where they would go to college and what would be their course, while me, I didn’t even know if I will pursue my college or not. The first reason why I am hesitant to continue college is because, people might bully, ignore, discriminate and hurt me again and the second reason is financial, where would my mom get the money for my tuition fees. After I have graduated high school, I enrolled in a school but I wasn’t able to finish it due to lack of financial. Every time I enter a college, I always end up dropping the course because of different problems, for almost 6 years, I was out of school. Then last 2011 I decided to pursue my college, and there, I was able to enrol in CSPC – Naga which is now BISCAST. I took the BSEd course because that is what my relatives want, since they are the one who will pay for my tuition fees. I am not really good at school, I always got the lowest grade during examinations and quizzes just an under average student. Before I enter college, I already know how hard would it be, but still I decided to take the risk because I want to give my family a better way of living. It was so hard for me to cope up with my subjects considering that I was out of school for six years. College were not that easy for me, I had a lot of difficulties; I have to go to school even without breakfast, lunch and money, even I don’t have sleep at night because my addict cousin is trying to kill us, and even if I am not mentally and emotionally prepared. I must go to school because I promised my mom that I’ll be someone someday and that she will never have to make night into day just to get money. I honestly don’t believe in myself, that Is why I am feeling so blessed because I passed the first, second and third year in college. .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 , .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 .postImageUrl , .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 , .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105:hover , .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105:visited , .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105:active { border:0!important; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105:active , .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105 .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .udf9caf65b13836b5cea497948db33105:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Economics Supply And Demand EssayI know I did my very best to pass those years even if I am already feeling down, but still I stood up. Now I am in my fourth year, hopefully my last year in college, but I am afraid this will not. I can’t concentrate in my school works, I am worried about my health and anxious about a lot of things. I really find it too difficult this year, the subjects and some of my professor. Lately, I am really feeling so down and upset with myself, I even thought of dropping all my subjects – I am about to quit. But, when I am already starting to accept my failure there’s this my conscience telling me that my mom is not getting any younger now, she might be weak in the near future, how will I give her a better way of living if I stop here. I have to fight until the finish line, if by any chance, I fail, I know to myself at least I tried. In life, sometimes we have to accept the reality but whatever happens you have to focus on your goal and finish it until the end. No matter how hard or difficult it maybe, you should not quit, because you’ll never know what’s going to happen until you are there to experience it. Life is a race, let’s finish it!

Motorcycles Essays - Land Transport, Transport, Outdoor Recreation

Motorcycles In 1868 Ernest and Pierre Michaux of France, experimented with a steam-powered bicycle. This engine was to big and heavy to really do much other than be a good idea. In 1868, steam powered motors was all that they had. The idea of a motor-powered bicycle had not come around again until 1884 when the gas powered combustion engine was a fairly common thing. In 1884 a man from England named Edward Butler attached a motor to his son's tricycle. Then four months later he attached a larger motor to his own custom tricycle. Every one thought that this idea was the best. Well the news got out to a German named Gottlieb Daimler. Daimler thought that he had to make one of the machines. But Daimler's machine was different. Daimler's machine had an ordinary bicycle for a frame instead of a tricycle. Daimler finally got his motor bicycle completed in1886. Soon after Daimler had finished his bike he lost interest in two wheels and went on to pioneer the automobile. These three machines were the birth of motorcycle. The first really successful motorcycle was built in 1901. The people who built it were Michael and Eugene Werner. They adopted the classic style of motorcycle that is used today with the motor between your legs and underneath the gas tank. The word "motorcycle" wasn't really even used until the end of the twentieth century. Motorcycle meant and bicycle or tricycle with an engine. Some of the kinds of motorcycles were two-wheeled bikes, three-wheeled bikes, mini-bikes, mopeds, and motor scooters. The scooter was extremely popular in Italy. Motorcycle racing began in 1897. The first official race was in Richmond, Surrey, England. Most of the racing back then was either city-to-city or informal road races. Starting at about 1905 closed-circuit racing was big among racers. First of all it was easier. All you had to do was turn one way, and go around a track for a certain number of times. Pretty much all of these bikes were twin cylinder bikes with about a 35 cubic inch motor, or 433 cubic centimeters. This changed in 1904 when Harley-Davidson made their first bike. It had a 45 cubic inch (750 cubic centimeters) V-twin motor. Other people then soon adapted their bikes to have bigger engines. The exception to closed circuit racing is the Tourist Trophy race that originated on the Isle of Man in 1907. The Tourist Trophy was first set at 37 miles but was later changed to 38? miles. This race was the first sponsored race. It was sponsored by Triumph Bikes for a promotion. This marked a major mile stone for motorcycle racing. In the early 1900's if you wanted a motor cycle you either had to make one your self or have someone with a good mechanic background make one. If you wanted to buy one, it was really expensive. If you wanted to make one, it would take you a lot of time. This problem was solved in 1904. Two manufacturers, Harley-Davidson and Triumph, started to manufacture their bikes. These bikes were fairly expensive. There was a lot of labor to these bikes. They had to make each fit just right. Because of this reason they could only manufacture about 10 bikes a year. But the industry wanted, and needed these bikes. It was a cheaper way of traveling from place to place. Even when the automobile many people still had scooters or motorcycles because they were cheaper and easier to operate. Many people who wanted to deliver things from town to town, that didn't like the speed of a horse and buggy, bought these bikes. The bike became a major part in our lives. In 1913, the Chicago police department started to experiment with motorcycles. There were now half-a-dozen different companies in the U.S. and about a dozen internationally, including Norton, BSA, and Vincent. Motorcycles were becoming huge everywhere. Then the Great Depression came along and motorcycles were scarcer. Gas was hard to come by. The motorcycle was more commonly used than automobiles because they had way better gas mileage. Once the Great Depression only three American brands remained, Harley-Davidson, Indian, and Triumph. Motorcycles were now commonly used for racing or for pleasure. Cars became more popular because they had a longer season to be used. Bikes gradually evolved until 1958 when the first four-cylinder motorcycle was made. Many people were going away from the classic look and buying Asian bike like Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki, and then later Yamaha. These bikes had a noticeably

Employees contribution in customer satisfaction, customer retention Dissertation

Employees contribution in customer satisfaction, customer retention and customer loyalty in SME retail organization like SUPERVA - Dissertation Example The peripheral economies have not been able to restructure their economies and introduce reforms to enhance productivity and competitiveness of their economies. 1.1.2 The Irish Economy The Irish economy has been one of the most successful in the world but it has also been among the hardest hit during the economic recession (European Commission, 2012). Up to 2007 Ireland experienced strong economic growth and the living standards in Ireland caught up with the world standards. This occurred as more number of workers entered the labor market. Additionally, higher levels of education resulted in better productivity. EU being declared as a single market made Ireland an attractive destination for inward investments. Between 2002 and 2007 the economy experienced high growth rates but this was at the cost of the Irish households building up personal debts. The real estate sector surged forward to due to increase in bank lending. Due to this, the balance sheets of banks grew disproportionatel y large compared to the size of the economy. In addition to the deposit base, the introduction of the Euro encouraged short-term borrowing from overseas. Risky lending practices by the banks proved to be damaging for the economy and this was evident when the property bubble burst (European Commission, 2012). Because of these anomalies the Irish banks were vulnerable to the global recession in 2007. The collapse of Lehman Brothers, investment bankers of US, led to severe tension in the global financial markets which led to deposit outflows at the Irish banks. 1.1.3 SME Retail sector in Ireland The retail sector in Ireland comprises of over 20,000 food and non-food retailers, mostly SMEs, being both Irish and International in origin (IBEC, 2012). The retail sector employs over 240,000 employees. Retailing offers people career in their own locality. The retail SMEs have invested heavily in the sector in the last decade. As a result of recession, the retail market has shrunk by over one -fifth in the terms of value. The retailers were forced to reduce prices, which in turn impacts the overall profits. However, the operating costs have not been affected due to inflexible rents, hourly pay rates, local authority charges and property service charges. The shrinking of the retail market compelled the retailers to seek help from the government. To enhance consumer spending, focus on employees has been considered a valuable agenda. This is based on the recommendation of Irish Business & Employers Confederation in its election manifesto ‘Delivering the Jobs Agenda’ (IBEC, 2012). 1.2 Competitive advantage through people Human resources are now considered valuable assets as there has been a rise in the status of knowledge workers (Sheehan, 2005). Based on the resource-based view of the firm, human capital has become the source of competitive advantage as Koch and McGrath (1996) contend that a highly productive workforce possess attributes that make it a highly v aluable strategic asset. This has led to the recognition of and commitment to human capital development; this has also caused the shift from traditional personnel management to refined HR practices. Competitive advantage can also be gained by recruiting people from diverse backgrounds regardless of ethnicity, age, gender and other individual characteristics (D’Netto and Sohal, 1999). 1.3 Motivation for Research Retailing is intensely competitive in Ireland as anyone can open a store. This has brought in many new

Romeo and Juliet are two young lovers who seem to rush the love between each other by becoming married to after only a matter of hours of knowing each other. Friar Laurence who should have been smarter in his actions by marry the two which ending up causing this tragedy, also both Romeo and Juliets have a role that ended up causing their children a tragic end. . Finally, the element of fate comes into play we realise that their tragic deaths may have been predetermined and would be unchanged even if they decided to act differently to what they did. Romeo and Juliet contribute to their tragic end. Both Romeo and Juliet are two young teenagers who rush there love between each other and make important decisions without proper thought to what the consequence might be. Romeo and Juliet are both too naive and do not realise nor think about their actions before actually doing them. ‘ Had I ever loved before? ’ Romeo says this when he first lays eyes on Juliet, without even properly meeting her he is already madly in love with her. This is simple naivety, which causes both Romeo and Juliet not to think about their actions and results in the ultimate sacrifise, their own lives. As for Juliet who has never felt love before, shows how naive she really is by just thinking that she is in love without experiencing it before meeting Romeo. Due to Romeo and Juliet’s naivety and lack of thought, contribute massively to the tragedy that they both suffer. The Montague’s (Romeo’s family) and The Capulet’s (Juliet’s family) have been feuding for decades and has become as bad as them trying to kill each other when they see each other on the streets. This relationship between the two families cause a major problem between Romeo and Juliet when they first realise who their families are. Both Romeo and Juliet realise that they can not tell anyone that they were madly in love with each other because they knew that both of their families would not allow the relationship and they could not be away from each other. So in result of the feud between the two families Romeo and Juliet have to keep their love secret when it would of help their relationship if they could talk to their parents and receive advise to reconsider how fast they were rushing into things. Both Romeo and Juliet did not have this advice and it ended up causing a tragedy. Friar Laurence has a major of role in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence ends up making four fatal mistakes, he gave a poison to Juliet, he trusted someone else with a letter of great significance to deliver to Romeo, he married the two and he fled when Juliet was in the most danger at the tomb. His biggest mistake was the horrible advice and decision making that he made when he first found out about Romeo and Juliet’s secret love for each other. Both Romeo and Juliet were too naive to understand the full extent of the situation, however Friar Laurence being a much older man with much more wisdom and knowledge acted in a way that ended up causing the tragedy to occur. If he had been wiser and gave both Romeo and Juliet advice that they needed and not gone along with their plan to un-thought plan, the end up result would have been different. Fate is a major element in the play Romeo and Juliet. The element of fate is a power that predetermines events in your life and is unchangeable or is certain destiny. It is irreversible. From the first page of the play we hear about fate, Romeo and Juliet are mentioned as `star-crossed lovers meaning that fate will bring them together. It also says that their love is `death markd which means that their fate will be tragic. This suggest to us that the end up result was always going to be the same no matter of what different actions Romeo and Juliet made. The Fate of Romeo and Juliet’s love could also be questioned as unlucky and coincidental. The Montague boys are accidently invited to the Capulet’s â€Å"feast† were Romeo and Juliet meet. Friar Laurences second letter is never sent to Romeo because Romeos cousin reaches Romeo before the letter ever has a chance. Romeo arrives at the tomb just before Romeo sees Juliet waking up and kills himself think she is dead, which results in Juliet killing herself. In conclusion I believe that Friar Laurence is mainly to blame for this tragedy between Romeo and Juliet. Both Romeo and Juliet were just too naive to think about their actions full effect, when Friar Laurence who is a much older and should have been much wiser did not think of the consequences when he really should of and gave them both horrible advice. That is why a believe Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy is to be blamed on Friar Laurence’s actions.

For this reason, I want to develop a deep understanding of computing theory and applications that will serve as a springboard to future discoveries. Absorbing new technologies has always been a pleasure to me. I like to be ahead of others in knowing new technologies, and that’s why I want to study further. It is this desire that made me apply for the master’s degree in computer and information science at the University of Pennsylvania. During my Undergraduate degree program at SASTRA University, the area which was of special interest to me was the design and analysis of algorithms. My first encounter with algorithms was when I wrote code for the popular video game Pac-Man (in C++). Thereafter, I developed a liking for the subject and challenged myself with tougher algorithmic problems by participating in programming contests hosted on sites like Codechef , Sphere Online Judge and TopCoder. I stood 10th in India in the Codechef February challenge-2009 and was consistently ranked in top 200 in TopCoder. Later that year, our team of 3 members qualified for the Asian regionals of the prestigious ACM(Association For Computing Machinery) Inter-Collegiate Programming Contest . My ideal vision of a career has always been a job that involves creativity, innovation and flexibility. I am confident that higher education would give me the desired push towards a career in research and an opportunity to do well in my chosen field of interest. I am eager to work under the guidance of the distinguished faculty members of the University of Pennsylvania. I am convinced that the facilities in the department of computer and information science in your university will be very useful for dedicated involvement in research projects. I believe that the CIS program at UPenn is compelling enough to whet my appetite for solving difficult problems in the field of computing and the best impetus I can get to my career. It would be an honor to be accepted as a student in this institution.

Zoecon Case Recommendation

The Problem(s). Does the South Delaware Coors distributorship offer sufficient investment potential given Mr. Brownlow’s current business and personal situation? Recommendation(s). Given Mr. Brownlow’s current business and personal situation operating the South Delaware Coors, Inc. distribution does offer sufficient investment potential. The following explanation is presented to evaluate the decision factors in the case. Profit Potential. From the studies conducted by Manson and Associates the potential profit can be estimated. The primary objective was to determine the investment potential of the distribution of Coors. As shown in Table 1, in order to break even, the South Delaware Coors distribution would need to sell $247,272 or 224,793 gallons to break even. This amount is not out of reach when calculating the market potential. The market potential calculated in Table 2. The table uses 2002 estimates to approximate the first full year of production for the South Dela ware Coors distribution. When total sale is multiplied with the wholesale price per gallon, the potential market for the distribution is 415,128 gallons. This potential market gallons sold is higher than the break even amount by 185%, creating a potential profit of $456,641. The industry demand also shows market potential by using the tax approach from Table E of the Manson study. The tax approach shown in Table 3 provides a look into the industry demand of beer in Delaware, where the average revenue of a wholesaler in 1997 was $799,944. Subtracted by the break-even cost, the tax approach shows revenue of $799,944 from the average revenue of a wholesaler.Comparing the break-even cost with the 1998 wholesaler revenue the profit increases 5. 8%, with estimated projected profit of $950,111 in 2002. Market share is shown in table 4. The market shares A, B and C are reflective of the good, better, best scenarios respectively. Even with the worst market share of 436,588. 2 gallons, it stil l surpasses the break even gallons by nearly double. The best market share scenario almost triples the breakeven point at 677,647. 7 gallons. Market and Competitive Environments.Since 1873, Coors has evolved into the fourth largest seller of beer in the United States, working on the philosophy of â€Å"hard work, saving money, devotion to the quality of the product, caring about the environment, and giving people something to believing in. † The impact of Coors on the competitive environments can be seen in the consumer and retailer questionnaire results from the Manson and Associate studies. Study G shows a large consumer following of Coors products with 70% of consumers with a â€Å"certainly will† intention to buy Coors. Similarly the retailer questionnaire, study H, showed 88. % of retailers â€Å"certainly will† sell Coors products. Public Acceptance. Coors’ history stands to show the acceptance in the quality of product Coors offers to their consume rs for over 140 years. Similarly, as with the market and competitive environment, 70% of consumers have the intention to buy Coors’ products. With this amount of anticipation from the consumers, there will most certainly be a spiked period of verbal advertisements from satisfied consumers. This type of advertisement is more powerful than any other advertisement because new consumers are more willing to try a new product when requested by someone they know.

]Taking A Closer Look At Milgrams Shocking Obedience Study

Taking A Closer Look At Milgrams Shocking Obedience Study In the early 1960s, Stanley Milgram, a social psychologist at Yale, conducted a series of experiments that became famous. Unsuspecting Americans were recruited for what purportedly was an experiment in learning. A man who pretended to be a recruit himself was wired up to a phony machine that supposedly administered shocks. He was the learner. In some versions of the experiment he was in an adjoining room. The unsuspecting subject of the experiment, the teacher, read lists of words that tested the learners memory. Each time the learner got one wrong, which he intentionally did, the teacher was instructed by a man in a white lab coat to deliver a shock. With each wrong answer the voltage went up. From the other room came recorded and convincing protests from the learner — even though no shock was actually being administered. The results of Milgrams experiment made news and contributed a dismaying piece of wisdom to the public at large: It was reported that almost two-thirds of the subjects were capable of delivering painful, possibly lethal shocks, if told to do so. We are as obedient as Nazi functionaries. Would they go along with an experimenters instructions and deliver increasingly harsh electric shocks, up to 450 volts, when the learner made a mistake These studies also show how uniforms can impact decision making.
